(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Zhalilov filed a letter a day earlier due to his health condition and is now planning to get involved in research work and pursue his personal interests.
There has been no decision yet on his request, according to official data.
Zhalilov has led the SAMK since July 27, 2010. This period saw the biggest number of scandals within the muftiate.
A few days ago opponents of the supreme mufti, unhappy about his staff and other policies, announced plans to set up an alternative Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kyrgyzstan.
Under the SAMK Charter, Zhalilov's first deputy Abdyshukur Narmatov should serve as acting Mufti.
